A collection of random knowledge that I acquire while scouring the internet. There is no rhyme, reason, theme, or order whatsoever. Just some random shit that made its way through a crazy interconnected web of madness and congregated at this slop bucket. Most of what I post won't have citations because I'm a product of a generation that's sick of everyone trying to claim every piece of any idea ever conceived. And we're lazy. If you find your content on here and want to be recognized for it, just let me know.
As long as there is a market for derivatives designed to insure against bad loans, then there will be an incentive for deliberately making bad loans, collecting the transaction fees, and then collecting on that insurance when the default happens.
All the lender, who deliberately makes bad loans, needs to do is make the transaction so complicated and convoluted that the insurance salesmen don’t fully understand the risk they are agreeing to take. Which is perfectly doable in today’s derivative markets.
The only way to ensure that banks try their best to make good loans in good faith is to get rid of that insurance. So that the bank who loans the money is the one who looses the money, if its loan goes bad.
So congress is authorizing the indefinite imprisonment of American citizens without charge or trial. That’s right, a provision in the current bill states ALL AMERICANS WOULD BE SUBJECT TO INDEFINITE IMPRISONMENT. Lock you away, no charge, no trial. Anyone for any reason. That is truly a new low.
That said, while browsing through articles highlighting this incredible heist of our civil rights, I found the following response which was so poignantly piercing with a truth that we all desperately plead ignorance towards.
We could become Germany under the Nazis!
You already are
Ask the Serbs
Ask the Iraqis.
Ask the Afghans
Ask the Libyans
Ask the Syrians.
Ask the Iranians.
Ask the 2 million dead.
Ask the latest indiscriminate victims of your ‘drones’.
Ask the six Afghan kids killed the other day.
Ask the other hundreds of thousands of dead and dying and blown away children like the half a million Madeleine Albright considered ‘a price worth paying’.
The US has been worse than the Nazis for years.
But now its moving right into the Americans home town and its nasty isn’t it?.
America should have cleaned out the Washington cesspit years ago.
But ‘good people’ did nothing.
What goes round comes round.
The US is not becoming a Nazi state - it has already morphed into the most monstrous agressive and evil military force this planet has ever known. Worse, far worse than any Nazi regime.
Murdering, torturing, threatening!!
Hated the world over.
Now they might knock on your door its a problem!
Overturn Citizens United, via executive order and then via a proposal for a Constitutional amendment stating that corporations cannot be recognized as individuals. Failing that, at least having legislation passed to that effect… but I imagine you could probably get the *people* of the states to ratify such an amendment.
Institute term limits: 12 years for all Congressional offices - that’s a political MAXIMUM of 6 House terms and 2 Senate terms per individual, and then 2 Presidential ones, should you be so lucky.
Immediately remove Congress’ ability to vote themselves a pay raise.
Freeze Congressional salaries and index them only by inflation. Taking national office should be the civilian equivalent of serving in the military - a sacrifice.
Commission a thorough investigation of campaign finance corruption, and eventually require all political action groups to have full transparency or severely reduced limits on contributions, remove the ability for corporations to contribute directly to any politican’s coffers or campaign, and institute strict public funding for any direct contributions. This may also necessitate a law requiring broadcast/cable networks to provide time for political discussions during campaign seasons.
AND STOP LOCKING AWAY PEOPLE FOR SMOKING WEED!!!!!
Occupy is a leaderless protest that represents all citizen concerns about life as an American. The underlining issue that represents most of the Occupy discontent is injustice, corrupt monetary system, banking fraud, wars, and an unrepresentative government whose allegiance is not to the people.
“The singular role of any government is to secure the rights of the people, any law that does not hold this basic tenant is unconstitutional.” – corporations are not people, people are not corporations
The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift. We will not solve the problems of the world from the same level of thinking we were at when we created them. More than anything else, this new century demands new thinking: We must change our materially based analyses of the world around us to include broader, more multidimensional perspectives.” ~Albert Einstein
”Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
OK Yahoo, who was it. Homeland Security? NSA? FBI? Corporate Backers? The Banks propping up your sorry business? Who???
Yahoo, you got some explaining to do.
While the censoring of personal lines of communication is an egregious offense in our once democratic nation (didn’t people use to go to jail for tampering with mail?), the real offense is that someone ordered the censorship to happen. This hammers the stake deeper into the heart of the beast. It is no longer about censorship, but OPPRESSION.
Don’t let this one slide by unscathed. Yahoo is complicit in the uber rich’s class warfare. They must be called out for their ingenuousness actions and someone needs to be held accountable. If our government had balls (been chopped long ago) they would subpoena Yahoo execs and get to the bottom of a serious scandal. Since that will never happen, it is up to us, the people, to voice our discontent with a corrupt and malicious system.
Ah, the bizarre legal results of confused courts and confused laws. Four of the people arrested in the UK and accused of being a part of the not-actually-a-group Anonymous last week won a small part of a court battle. Prosecutors apparently had asked the court to bar the four from using Twitter or other social networking and chat services, such as TinyChat, arguing that “Anonymous as a group continues to be active.” The court decided that it would not issue such a complete ban, though it had already blocked them from using IRC. Instead, it said that they could continue to use social networking and chat programs… but not use their existing online personas. It is, therefore, somewhat ironic that one of the people in question used his real first name as his online persona previously:
Peter David-Gibson, aged 20 from Hartlepool, who went by the online nickname “Peter”
Yes, you read that right. A guy accused of being Anonymous, but who used his real name online, can now no longer use his real name… because he may have been a part of Anonymous. That makes sense.
Here we see the difference between a genuine popular revolt against a dictator, and a coup d’etat trying to pretend to be a popular revolt.
Egypt: 18 days to bring down a tyrant and no outside support.
Libya: 6 months of NATO bombing and Qaddafi is more popular than ever.
